I love mine but either it or my converter is making a weird ratcheting noise when I accelerate sometimes but goes away when it warms up this will be the second time I have had to send my P.I back if thats the problem. This thing is so fun to drive I don't think there would be a second thought of doing the swap again.

How important is the year of the 4L80? My tranny guy says he has a good unit that he'll freshen up for me, add a shiftkit and a 34 sprag for 1500 bucks.. but this tranny has the 2 cooler lines right next to one another. isn't that an older model? he said he would upgrade everything to the newer style parts, he has them all in stock. Whatcha think?

I believe the upgraded parts are about $500 so it's probably not a bad deal.
The 2002+ 80E's have all of the available upgrades.

the cooler line thing changed in 97 I think, but JamesB would know best.

$1500 is way too much.

I picked up a low mile 05 for less than half of that with everything. When you buy one, make sure you get everything (dust cover, dipstick, all electronics, flexplate, converter) because that stuff can add up very fast.

That being said, several on here are using 90s era 80e's with no problems, I just prefer to have a newer unit that's all

You think 1500 is too much for a freshly rebuilt 80 with all the latest factory upgrades with a stock converter, a shift kit and a warrantee?

missed the part about a fresh rebuild....depends how much faith you have in your tranny guy I suppose. $1500 does seem like a pretty good deal. Personally,I just like to keep things how GM sent them out and get a newer low mile unit. Several people here have had very good luck with 500+ rwhp on a stock 4l80e, maybe just a shift kit added.

that is what i did, got a 2005 80e it has a cooler line in the front and one in the back. i read it helps better flow to the rear. put a shift kit and go, with converter and 30k miles mine was 900.00 total from a wreaking yard
