Default So what year 4L80e can I use?

My buddy at the junkyard is telling me I need an 02 tranny for my 02 but we can't find a 2 wheel dr. My tranny guy says he has a couple of late 90's he can make work. Need some advice from you guys that have been there..........

I believe the perfered 80E is a 98 and newer? James B had some good info on this exact topic.. if I wasn't on my phone I'd look for you.. but you can use a 1998-2006 4L80E 2wd.

OK, think I have a handle on it. What about a 4L85e ? my tranny guy has a core he says will work.

The 85 has a five pinoin plantary in the reaction carrier assy.. They are also strait cut gears and are noisy, but THEY are stronger....

Preferred 4L80E is built after March 2001... which has the majority of updates.

I'm going with a 94 style and changing everything inside to update.
Just can't find any late model 80's.

We are basically replacing everything from the center of the trans back.
Going to see if my tuner can adjust for the diff solenoids.

you might no want to do that, The main shaft in the reaction carrier has lube holes in the early models.....
