Question Shift kit therapy?

I had a Trango shift kit installed along with servos. They did the "stage 1" install.

At first, it was so harsh that the tires were barking at partial throttles at the 1-2 shift, so i had the line pressure reduced in the tune for the 1-2 and increased for the 2-3. (which was weak)
Now the 1-2 is better, but still bumps hard and the 2-3 feels great.

At WOT, the 1-2 is a solid shift (not chirping) but at less than 1/2 throttle it's still a little firm for me. The 2-3 is purrfect.

Am i going to have any problems with the 1-2 being so firm? I had the kit installed to reduce wear on the tranny. Will reducing more line presure defeat the purpose of the kit or ? make it better?

Thanks for taking the time to read and answer my post. I just dont want to be having to buy new parts quite yet!

I dont think you will have any probs breaking parts. as more time goes by it may even get a little softer yet. you may take a tad more out of the 1-2 just to see but I would give it some time first. See how it settles in.

I don't know if I agree with removing pressure by tuning. It seems to be the easy solution but IMO not the correct one. The trans needs to calibrated correctly first then tuned for shift timing. I tell people to leave the pressure tables alone. Well this is just MO hope this helps.

So it will break-in with use/time?

As far as the tuning goes, all he's done so far is to back the 1-2 pressure to where i was before he dyno tuned me.

How do i tell my tuner how to calibrate the trans correctly? What should be done in your opunion?

Nothing wrong with putting line pressure back to stock. Get a stall in there and it will soften up even more.

Now that you have beefed up the trans put the line pressure back to stock and get a good 2600 or 2800 stall, many people say that a stall is the best mod that they have done.

What is expected from a stall converter while driving? How will it differ in driving from stock?

Take a couple hundred more rpms to get moving but not much. Travert basically you raised line pressure mecanically instead of through the EPC silenoid so you ahve to reduce line pressure via tuning that was raised when they tuned it with a stock trans in. Its fine as long as it isnt chirping the tires at anything less than WOT. Also on it being firm what do you expect you are putting performance parts in your truck some driveability issues are going to come up such as the firmer shifts. Like it has already been said put a stall in it and it wont be as stiff of a shift.

Yea,
we set line pressure down a bit and now the 1-2 is a strong solid bump but no chirp. I dont get any chirp at WOT, at least i cant hear it at that engine speed anyway! I get a little chirp if making a slight turn under acceleration.
I just want to make sure i am not causing premature failure of my tranny by having it set to firm. Sounds about normal i guess. Stall is next major mod, maybe UD pulley's.
Not having much experience or other trucks around here to compare to sucks....

When I had mine installed the put two washers and the servo and dam did the 1-2 hit hard I thought I broke yhe rear end. Drove it for a week to much for me took it back told them to install no washers to soften it up. What they did was leave one washer in and put the stock springs back. It was better but still felt like someone keeps kicking me in the *** on half or low throttle. Jesse tuning made the kit shift at the right rpms its been three months and I have noticed the shift becoming softer on light throttle. If I give it WOT it will bark the tires good and I actually go sideways if not carefull. I actually got used to it and now I get upset when I drive a truck with out it (have to wait for the shifts). If you put the stall I'd like to know how you like it
