Default screwed up 700

So i only got 1st and 2nd gear in my 1990 silverado, and the tranny seems to shift into neutral after 2nd. I've had a couple of guys tell me it sounds like the 3-4 band is toast along with clutches. I just rebuilt the engine in this truck myself, massaging every part myself (within my budget). Now that the tranny took a , well it just sucks so I want to fix it of course. Any information on this topic would be greatly appreciated. I'm a pretty good DIY kinda guy so I'm lookin to do this myself.

You have a 3-4 clutch failure or broke the snap ring groove in the drum for the 3-4 clutch pack.

thanks for the quick reply guys. do you think this is something i could attempt to fix myself? will it require dropping the pan, or pulling the whole tranny?

Time for some more noobster questions.

I'm thinking about tearing it down just far enough to replace the 3-4 clutches, and throw in a shift kit, just basically get it back up to snuff as cost-effectively as possible.

What I would like to know is all of your opinions/advice on this. As I've said before I know very little of Auto-trans, but I want to learn.

Thanks in advance

There's a lot more to it then just replacing clutches. Yes the shift is pretty easy but clutches is a whole different story. Basically you have to remove everything, the pump, plantary, etc. I've done multiple shift kits and servo installs. This is one that if your a noobie do not need to tackle without some help like a manual, personal help, etc. You have clearances and everything else to deal with. Plus, if your in there, you might as well replace a few more things b/c no telling what else the 3-4 pack took with it when it went out.

Remember, keep everything as clean as possible.
