Default s-10 rear ends

can you fit a full size truck ring, pinion and diff into a 2000 S-10 rear end? i know they are both 10 bolt but wasn't sure if they would fit. maybe custom axles but thats no big deal if like a 8.6" detroit locker would fit inside.

the s-10 10 bolt is the 7.5" 10 bolt like the ones in camaros and stuff, not the 8.5/8.6 10 bolt.

Some S-10's came with an 8.5" rear ends. I think only some 4wd trucks did as well as all ZR2 trucks. I don't think the carriers will swap to our 8.6's though due to the bearings being different. The R&P should swap over though.

i understand that the s-10 are smaller (some may got bigger ones but not this guy) but are the housings different? i seen a guy trying this in the auto hobby shop. he said it would work but he never could get his stock one out. it was stuck some how.

how can a 8.5" ring bolt in the place of a 7.5" ring?

Yes the housings are diffrent. Diffrent part numbers, and diffrent build codes.

ok so best bet is to just get a 10 bolt from a silvy and shorten it? don't need a 9.5" in a 500hp s-10 do ya? taking the build from that 4.3l silverado and doing the same thing in a ext cab S-10.

I was talking 8.5" vs. 8.6" ring gears. There's no need to mess around with shortening a fullsize rear and changing the bolt pattern. If you read my first post, there are S-10's out there that have 8.5" 10-bolts. Hell, you could even make a G-body rear work easier than a fullsize rear end.

Check car-part.com

RPO ZR2 will for sure get you a 8.5" but I think they're a couple inches wider than a normal s-10 rear. Just look for a 4.3L 5spd 2nd gen S-10 and it'll probably have an 8.5" rear with the right width. They're out there, but you'll have to look on car-part.com
