im not a newb. I use the
this thread came up top
im looking to adapt a truck rear end from an 07 truck to my Camaro ss. paying 3gs for an aftermarket rear got old back in early 2002 for me.
anyways I can weld n fab anything. even got my own shop n such
my engine put down 425rw on 8.25:1 compression n/a thru a t56 and stock 10 bolt.
and is scheduled for 1500-1600 or 1200ish to the wheel. with a pair.
been working on a lot of ls trucks and im wondering if I beef this rear, will it handle that amount. get axles,locker/cut the tubes down/etc.
if I can save a few bux here and there adapting it to my car.
I came on here to see how much abuse the rears are capable with some beefing up of course.

They can be made to live.

But, You may want to consider modifying a ford 8.8 from an explorer for the Camaro.

I think you should go all out for that sort of power. Get a GM 14bolt axle, as I understand it they're the widest, strongest semifloat GM ever made.

The 8.8 would offer much less un sprung weight for his application. It would also fit better in the Camaro Chassis. Its a well documented swap on the Tech side.

The 8.8 from the trucks and explores also have 31 spline axles, usually posi units and 3.73 gears. occasionally you can fins a 4.11 unit.

yea. ive followed a few of the threads on tech. for the 8.8 builds. however I can get the rears for 100$ complete from same place I get my motors. ive been dealing with a jy for about 10 years now. buying mostly ls motors. but rears. from gm pu trucks I can get for that amount. 150$ tops.
the place I deal with is pretty much 90% gm trucks.
they can get me an 8.8 but it will be closer to 500-600$ since its not coming from there lot. its from one of there associate lots.
so that's why I came on here looking for common upgrades to the truck rear ends. I know ive seen some stout and very powerful trucks in my area. and I believe they are using jacked up stock rear ends.

and for the 8.8 theres a core charge for 200$. so basically close to 6-800$ for one of those rear ends.
I was just interested in a truck rear build. seeing as how im able to install the gears and guts and fab whatever is necessary to adapt to the fbody.
tq arm bracket on the center housing would prolly be the biggest challenge.
but Iirc currie sells a weld on or bolt on bracket

True Trac is a popular carrier upgrade. The factory locker is junk

I would add the correct brackets needed, Then weld the Tubes to the center section using a line up bar. You can install the Stud's in the Caps and add a Girdle style rear cover.

You will probably need custom brackets if you intend to run the Camaro rear brakes.
Axles can be re-drilled. Sounds like that shouldn't be an issue for you.

If your willing to pull it your self you can get an 8.8 at local pull it your self yard for around $150 complete. Score it on a 1/2 price day and you probably get it for around $80. They usually have 1/2 off around major holidays.

Yea. I can do all the welding. Speedway racing sells the shock perches. Founders has the LCA brackets. Or I can cut off anything off my stock 10bolt for re use.
Thanks for the help.
I'm looking online to find "build" threads. W more detailed info for the guts. I was thinking of using custom length aftermarket axles anyway w correct bolt pattern.

I didn't know founders performance had the LCA brackets. I saw in 1 of the other threads, that racecraft had them but I didn't see them on the website. Maybe it was a call in deal and they haven't updated their site.

Are you referring to speedway motors for the shock mounts? They have alot of that universal stuff.

I would be Interested to see a build thread when you get to that point. I am sure you will have a few small obstacles to overcome so it will be interesting to see what you do.
