my rear end is acting up here lately. just before i got the truck, the previous owner said that he had just serviced the rear end.

if i stomp it from a stop sometimes i hear a couple of popping sounds coming from the rear end until i catch traction. it dosent do it all of the time... then the other day i did a small burnout for the hell of it and the rear end didnt unlock for another 1/4 mile or so . im pretty sure its a g80 back there. could i take it in and have the rear end serviced and fix the problem or does it sound like im the next victim of the dreded g80

 

sounds like the same prob i was having, mine would stay locked up sometimes also, and was getting some weird noises also. I replaced it with an eaton posi and 4.10 ratio gears. i have read more than once about these same issues with the stock g80 and rear ends. mine has not done it since the new install, and i'm much harder on it also, no sign of any issues yet.

 

Yeah, buy a new posi, and might as well do gears and bearings while you are in there. You don't want to break something else because of a bad differential (axle).

 

i was hoping for better news it already has 3.73 with only 10,000 miles. can anyone give me a round-about estimate on a NEW eaton posi unit?

 

nevermind, i looked up some prices....about the price of the catback system i want . have any of you guys seen or heard of someone servicing the gears and unit and fix the pops and hangs?
