No, just make sure you put 75W-90 synthetic in it

Per Gm's instructions you are suppose to use the friction additive. Without it you will get shirping rear tires when you go around corners and also I have heard alot of people having problems with the synthetic stuff though I havent had any personal experience with the synthetic.

The g80 I've worked with had clutches as well as the mechanical lock. The clutches aren't as strong as an eaton's of course. I would put the friction modifier in it. K&W makes some. they sell it at most parts stores. Some fluids come with it already in it. Read the bottles and see.

If its got the G80 in you need to use the friction modifier with mineral oil 75W90 or something close to that. I promise, I put some more friction modifier in my rear axle to when it started chirping around corners and it helped for a while then I did a nitrous assisted burnout from the shoulder of the road with one tire in the grass and basically melted it together into one solid chunk. Had to be cut out with a torch and grinder to put the eaton

Use the modfiier its like 3 bucks and cheap insurance and also what GM calls for in their service manuals

My GM service manual and my owner's manual calls for 75W90 Synthetic. Neither mentions the additive.

Im just going on what the parts guy at the local dealership said was in THEIR tech book not if it doesnt show up in yours or he was lying to me I dunno but I do know they add the friction modifier when they do any rear end service at Champion Chevrolet in Athens, AL.
