Default Radix; To Stall or not...

Since my 4l60 is toast, time to rebuild. I decided to go with a built 4L60 w/a one year warranty. Its going to cost $2200 and with a stall of my choice. Not sure what size stall to get. When I talked to Magnacharger today, they recomended me to not get one since I will lose torque at low rpm. He said to keep the stock stall because it is already 500rpm higher due to the blower.

I started thinking, a higher stall may give me less torque at lower rpm enabling me to get some better traction. My truck simply spins all the way through first gear. I don't know how people with the radix move in first gear. Even at 20 or 30, once it shifts it starts spinning in second.

I guess my question is, to stall or not to. Please help. My truck goes to the transmission shop tomorrow.

well you got plenty of low end pull with the radix, so what about a TB stall or something in the 2600-2800 range.

I ran a TT3000 in my Radix Tahoe and loved it.Who's converter is your builder providing? If the stall is part of the package you'd be foolish to pass on it especially with a 1yr warranty.

Traction will get worse with a higher stall. But if you can hook, you'll definately like it. My TT 3000 made daily driving better.

I'd recommend a 2600-3000 for a radix.

I have a Yank 3k with the Radix, runs fine. Just invest in some traction

I am sure I will get flamed here, but I would rather see a lower 2200-2500 stall in these Radix trucks. Your rpm and speed will be linier. I have had a high stall converter with the Radix, and I felt like I was wasting the 2000-4000 rpm range.

I see your point, kinda seems the same with a nitrous vehicle. With a high stall you waste the low-end torque that spray produces. It seems as if the more of a load you're under, the better it feels.

Edit - Good thing about a higher stall is for a aggressive cam setup, so you wont stall out/die every corner.

To be honest if I did it all over again, I probably wouldn't get a stall for a daily driver with Radix. However I'm sure I'll run better times at the track with the stall+traction.

I'm glad I ignored the advice of everyone on here and kept my stock converter. The addition of the 205/212 cam on top of the Radix gave me even more torque off the line, right at 700 RPM's. Although I won't argue the merits of being thrown into the power curve at 3000 RPM's, that scenario was just not for me.
