Question: 1992 4L80e to link up to LR4 in 05 GTO

I think your best bet on the early units would be in a full manual valve body application. Its not to say it couldn't be made to work but I don't believe its as simple as changing out the pressure control solenoid and a change to the tuning. If it were me I would not go with anything older than a 96 model just due to compatibility issues. Maybe one of the 4L80E Gods will chime in and now some more specifics on this.

I'm debating on completely pulling it apart. As much as I want to trust that this trans is in working order, I don't want to hook it up and find out it's broken or going to be.
I'll talk to pcmsforless to see what they can do about the older trans.
Like you said, hopefully someone else can chime in and give us a clearer answer.

It's been a couple months and I'm back on the project. Unfortunately, a lot has been going on the past few months, mostly good, but very very time consuming.
Quick question though. I'm debating on mating the LR4 to the 4L65e. If I were to swap the LS2 flexplate onto it and maybe get some longer bolts and a spacer could I mate it up with the 4L65e?

Im not sure whats different with the LS2 flexplate, but you could bolt it on and give it a try on the engine stand or something?
should be about a 3/16" gap on the converter pads to flexplate.
