Default Proper Rear End break in

How are you guys doing it?

I want to get the 6.0 strapped to the dyno for a tune but hesitant to do so before the rear end is broken in.

I broke mine in by running under 50mph for less than 15 miles until 500 miles. It's a real PITA but my gears make no whine!

Jason,
The shop who did my gears had me break in very carefully. short heat cycles to 500 miles and then a gear oil change. They specialize in rear ends, and they're highly respected in town.
I drove mine to work every day (5 miles) for a couple of weeks and changed to synthetic.

trever and everyone else have totally opposite break ins... only above 50 for 500 miles and others only city... i got my rear end done by an extremely worthy shop in the race community, pyle brothers, and all i did was drive it 2 hours home the first day then take it easy until 500mph and i have no whine either. im pretty sure its all in the mechanics personal opinion which he thinks is best

500mph... damn...

Really as long as you give it a couple of heat cycles and take it easy on it and change the fluid after 500 miles, it should all be good

Went to the same shop as Bill (trever1t) for the WS6. Still in the break-in procedure.

50mph or less for the first 100mph, with no more than 15miles per trip with a 30 minute minimum cooldown after each trip. 101-500miles, keep it 65 or under and take it easy... I've had a hard time keeping that car under 65...or 85 for that matter.

Works well though so far. Went from having a decel whine that could wake the dead to completely quiet except for from 52mph-64mph. Start to hear it at 52, becomes slightly noticable at 54, peaks at 58mph then is gone by 64mph. Thinking it might be transmission harmonics rather than rear end though.

It looks like I am going to have to wait. I dont want to take any chances with my 3rd rear end. I will probably just take it and have it tuned so that is runs properly so I can at least drive it. Im sure going from a 5.3 to 6.0, tuning changes need to be made so the truck is driveable.
