Default preferrable trans temp

ok with my new temp gauge installed, right before the aftermarket cooler, seems like the temps hover just over the 140 line...seems a little hot but thats not the temp of the fluid entering the transmission but upon its exit thats what its at. i dont know how much cooler the 23000GVM cooler makes it but im just wondering what the norm is? anyone can post up some chart ive seen a couple times here and there about at what temp is best, what temp gaskets start to decay and what temp stuff goes boom....

140 is to cool. You need a little heat to make things work good. I seen a graph that shows the break down of tranny fluid at certain temps. I looked for it and couldn't find it. I will look again tomarrow, I am going to say between 150 and 160*

On my Stage 4 4L80e i was told to expect temps up to 210 due to the outside temps here in Florida of 95+... i usualy run right around 180 and it shifts much better there then at 140...

before my 3800 stall i would run about 110 on the highway and 150 in city. now im about 150 on highway and 180 in city and sometimes higher
honestly 180 is to hot for my perference since as soon as the trans/converter gets that hot it doesnt perform right at all. so i picked up a fan for my trans cooler and hooking it up with a thermostat to come on around 165-170. run a huge stall and see why you want a lower temp. i make one pass from 135 and at end of pass im about 160 to 170 within that distance

i just seen recently two converters both had burn marks on them. one servely black and other some burn marks. both didnt have a tranny gauge and both cars started to act up when hot. both stalls were 4k

See, i got 1,600 rpm stall to maintain drivablity so, it performs pretty consistant no matter how hot it gets. The only thing that changes it shifts harder when it gets to around 180 but, the trans shop thats ok...
