pre '96 4L80 for 600whp
#1
I bought a trans a couple years ago to build for my 600whp Tahoe. At this point I have forgotten what year it is, but I think its a '93.
As far as I know and remember, it is 100% stock, with a 1800-2300 converter.
I planned on buying an HD2 kit, Red Clutches and whatever you guys suggest. Then it is going to a builder here in town to get looked through and worked on.
While I am in there, what else should I purchase to make 600whp a walk in the park for this thing?
Power adder is a tvs1900 for what it is worth.

Skip the HD2 kit if you're opening the trans up. Do the free internal dual feed mod.
Drill the direct drum as in the first part of this doc.

I find as many people suggesting stock Borg Warner clutches.
34 element sprag is a good upgrade.
2002+ OD roller, carrier and planet (must be done together) are more stout than the older ones.
You could look into a billet shaft too.

Is this a sufficient kit at a good price?

FWIW I found Ebay and www.wittrans.com as a good source of parts.
If you really want a stout trans, sell your working one and buy one from Jake. He's got great prices and great products. Plus you'll know it works. Beyond building he also actually tests the trans.
The only reason I didn't buy from someone like Jake was that I'm setup with a 2nd car and enjoy the pain of mechanical failure.
I may sound like a Jake nut swinger but hes got the reputation and has been a real help to me with my efforts.

I know there are plenty of vendors and builders, but I am owed a favor by the trans shop, I have a trans and a converter. It makes the most sense for me to either kit and clutch mine, or source parts together to get a decent trans.
Would the kit above with a 34 element sprag and the direct drum mod you listed hold up to 600?
Also, is this worth purchasing?
