I run a Jakes trans in both my trucks. Great builder, family owned business and a stand up guy all around.

ok talk to my trans builder. hes convinced its either an accumulator issue or my stall failed. is there a way to test a stall issue without removing the trans? i only ask because i dont have a place to pull out this transmission in military housing.

^^ I got tired of the rebuilding, and I'm going with an 85e. I can tell you that my input shaft crapped the stall, and it's done.

Btw don't forget the flex plate.

so there i was... and my wife gives me 4000 bucks to buy a new 4L80E from Jakes and a stall, crossmember, and wiring harness. now i know i can modify mine but i may in the future put this truck back to stock for my kids. who knows. talked to circle D and they sell an 80E stall that bolts up to the stock 5.3 flex plate. anyone done this that thinks this is a bad idea?

For the power you're pushing (based on your sig) you shouldn't have any problems with the stock flexplate. Given that, it's still a gamble as they've been known to break, and when you think about it, it's a hell of a lot less trouble to replace the flexplate empirically than after a failure, stranding the truck and possible causing damage to other components.

A Jake's level 2 80e would probably easily live for a long time under that setup and he rates them to 750 flywheel. After 750 the stock input shaft becomes iffy.

so i pulled the pan today and there is nothing i can see wrong. no metal or shavings nothing. so im assuming that i have nothing wrong with the clutches, and the pump is working. the torque converter is engaging when i put it in gear. going to pull the valve body out and check the accumulator just to see what i have going on in here. i would like to fix it and sell it to help fund my 80e swap. any thoughts on what i should look for in the valve body?
