Default Popping feel in my steering column???

So when I make a turn I feel a little pop in my steering column that makes a small noise. I was told that since 2000 all GM trucks have had this defect and that there is nothing wrong but it is a little annoying! Is this true, does anyone else have experience with this?

Just about every person here. Do a search for "intermediate steering shaft" or something like that.

Personally, I got the kit to fix it myself from a dealership and just packed in some bearing grease.

There is an expandable shaft and the splines have too much play in them. So you get that "clunk" when turning and going over bumps.

Yup. Covered under warranty. THe lube helps reduce some of the feedback in the steering colum.

I too had the "popping" on an 04 Sierra 1500. BUT it wasn't the shaft, it was the inner tie rods. Now, get this, the geniuses at the GMC dealership replaced the whole steering rack under warranty.
Seems to me it would be alot cheaper to just replace the tie rods, but I didn't complain.
They started to give me crap about the 2/4 drop, but then realized that the drop did not affect the rack.
Truck has 15k miles.

It cost like 15 to 20 dollars for a grease filled suringe at the dealership. I did it myself by taking out the intermediate shaft and pushing the grease into the hollow shaft and then working the shaft in and out havent had a problem since.
