Default pinion angle

What should my pinion angle be at for a drag setup. 08 rcsb 2wd 4/7 flip kit with caltracs
Just curious what degree works the best I'll be having my shop do it while I'm out of town

There's no way to answer this question without knowing the actual measurements on your driveline.

What I've seen posted repeatedly is an misunderstanding of what pinion angle really is. Most think it's the relationship of the rear end yoke to the ground. In reality, what we are after is the relationship of the driveshaft to the rear end pinion. This angle should be equal and opposite to the transmission-driveshaft angle. Usually we allow 1-2 degree of upward rotation of the pinion under power, however since you have Caltracs, theoretically, there shouldn't be any rotation.

Do you have a 1 piece of 2 piece driveshaft? 1 piece should be pretty simple, 2 piece adds more complexion and I'm still trying to figure it all out on my setup.

3 degrees is a bit much for ideal U joint operation

I just want it at the best angle so my suspension caltracs etc all work so I get max traction with these slicks

pinion angle is the angle of the pinion in relation to the angle of the tailhousing...not to the driveshaft. should be about -3* for a leaf spring truck

Ive got caltracs and a flip. My driveline angles are trans -2.3, driveshaft -1.2, and oddly enough pinion -2. No vibe whatsoever and hooks hard

The angle between the pinion and the driveshaft, and the tailhousing and the driveshaft should always be equal and opposite. The pinion and the tailshaft should also always be parallel to eachother. So if the pinion is set at -2 degrees to the driveshaft then the trans tailshaft needs to be +2 degrees to the driveshaft the resultant angle is 0 degrees. I just went through this with my truck which is lowered 7"s in the rear and ended up having to raise the trans mount 2-1/2"s and modify the engine mounts to make all the driveline angles happy again. Granted I should mention that I've seen some pinion angles in drag racing that defy logic, but work for some people.
