Default Phoenix... we have a problem

My 4L80e seems to be having even more trouble

brief run down.... When I first put it in it would seem like it bounces back and forth between 3rd and 4th under even throttle. I put a new PRNDL on since it was having in gear idle trouble untill it sits in gear. Also the O2s since they were bad. That problem is almost non existent. However, Im running shitty fluid (supposed to be Dex 6 ) and its dark. Trans has been well over 210 since my truck has been over 220... Now that I just got back from a trip to Cali in it 1st gear kinda whine/hums. Kinda like the sound of a 1st gear clutch pack being fried. But it still doesnt slip in 1st and shifts firm as ever.

Help!

Sorry for the long rant....

(short version, trans has been over heated Im sure of it. Has shitty fluid, has 3rd-4th gear back and forth problems and now 1st gear hum/whines as if clutch packs are burnt up.)

first gear whine is pretty common. my built one did it pretty bad. It has to do with straight cut gears and/or 5 gear planets.

So it feels like it is shifting in and out of 3rd and 4th? Any codes set? No TPS, MAF, or speed sensor problems? The 1st gear whine is normal, some had a straight cut rear planet that made it even worse. What type of fluid are you running? You don't necessarily have to run dex 6, 3 or up would be fine IMO.

well it seems as if the whine is worse. It never whined this bad and now my ex described it as almost like I've got a turbo spooling really low... I believe its worse, Ill drive it in the next couple days and see. I dont have any codes or anything and its all hooked up right. I am running I think Dex 3? it might've been like Dex/Merc 4 or some off brand **** like that from Auto Zone. I thought ATF is ATF

(que think with your dipstick jokes )

mine started to get really bad in all gears. Then went out the next day. not sure what broke yet. but it was from a really harsh 2-3 shift that was uncontrollable.

****.. that makes me worried haha. I wanted to rebuild it from day one. Im tempted to Email the guy I bought it from and be like hey man.. its been bouncing from day one but its been 7 months now, he probably wont buy that.

O and yes 3-4 is definitely not staying in 4. around town it'll cruise in 3rd then slam to 4th and if I let off the throttle it'll bounce right back to 3rd... freeway its usually fine.

anyone have experience rebuilding an 80e? I want to rebuild mine myself just so I know whats what and if it went wrong its cuz of me but Im also WELL under broke
