Default Part Throttle 2nd Gear. Shift Harshness

I installed the Transgo HD2 in my 4L60E. What's the easiest way to soften up the part throttle 1-2 shift? I'm going to install a CD 28-3200 rpm converter. Will this help soften the shift some? Running 4.56s trutrack and 34" tires stock 5.3.

The stall will help take the hit out of the shift some.

What size holes did you drill in the Seperator plate?

Can't remember the exact diameter but they were all drilled per the Transgo instructions.

I cant rem on the 60E, but i know on the 80E you have 3 or 4 different suggested sizes for different shifts.

Do you have an aftermarket servo?

Both large servos were replaced with Oregon Performance billet units. I know, I may be my own worse enemy....I sorta thought the converter might soften the feel of the shift a little. Right now it spins the tires in second like it could break the TruTrac in the rear. Not complaining, just saying..

That output shaft isnt goin to last long with a hard shift like that.. put stock servo and corvette servo in and that should get it down to where you like it better.

That converter will soften the shifts up some though. I'd put the converter in and see how it shifts before you do anything.

If after you install the converter and still do not like the 1-2 shift you could return the accumulator setup back to stock. If this does not do it for you I would look at the 1-2 accumulator valve and sleeve in the valve body. I have seen this sleeve installed upside down and it blocks the oil circuits. This will cause a harsh 1-2 and 3-4 shift. Also if the valve is sticky in this sleeve you can have weird shift issues. HTH Vince

In the tune you can do several things as well.

1. Lower the 1->2 shift pressures for the TQ ranges that are harsh
2. Add some shift times in the TQ ranges that are harsh
3. Add in some TQ Management to the TQ ranges that are harsh
