Default opinions on the 4L65E

To make a long story short, my stock 60E has been acting very strange lately. Lost 1st and 4th gear twice this week. . But after both instances parking and turning the truck off then back on.... i then have the gears back.

Second gear is now slipping bad at high/low RPMS now. If i nail it at 60 mph the RPM's flash to 5500 rpm then dumps into 3rd. IF i hold 2nd out manualy runs like a raped ape, but slips a little. Im going easy on her now, got to make her last a while. She's got 11,000 miles on the tranny since the blower install.

What do you all think of a built 4L65E? (Not wanting to go the 80E route) How many of you guys are running them, and how much power are you putting to them? Will i need a new converter? I do not want that "flashing" feeling anymore when i nail the throttle at speeds of 40-60mph, how do i get rid of that with a built tranny? Who builds the 4l65E the best, which one are you using? How do you like it? Also any input on a 4wd applicatoin would be great......

65 is a nice direct bolt in....can be done ina few hours.

This is the route I will be taking once the 60 goes.

I have the FLP level4 with a 5-pinion upgrade(they do a level5 now that includes the 5-pinion and other hardened parts) I like it alot.

You don't have to change the converter if you don't want to.

I think the flashing you're talking about is the trans slipping. My 60E did that too before it went out.

Mine is a 4wd. I think the only difference between a 4wd and 2wd is the tailshaft.

I have a JAG built 65 and love it. I'm putting down about 380 rwhp and ran it with slicks at the track with no problem. I had a transgo in the '60 and 1-2 felt fine but the rest sucked.

Can you elaborate a little more on that please?
