Open diffs woes, thanks Truetrac
#1
So a few weeks ago before I headed out of town for work I finally got around to getting my Truetrac in, well the install went flawless and I didnt even have to use the adjustable shim pack that I bought *make me an offer if anyone interested* The factory cast shims brought backlash within spec & added the appropriate amount of bearing preload. I was rather impressed with how F'd up the spider gears were from the open diff. Here are some of the pics of them, they had roughly 75k on them, some hard fought, from both my foot & trailer. You can see how chewed up the retaining bolt was, damn near an 1/8" out of it where it was slamming the cross shaft(which showed no signs of wear).
Anyone else chew up theirs?

2 Times before going to the locker. My spiders looker like tapered bearings after one. Finally drew the line when the retaining bolt snapped and dropped the pin into the front of the case, instantly jamming the whole setup and sending me into a dimension of pissed off that I did not know existed.

man those look great compared to mine. i had an open carrier in mine for almost 2 years and when i got the trutrac installed the magnet on the inspection plate looked like a huge bead of weld! there was chunks of whole teeth floatin around everywhere b/c the magnet was so full. il post some pics tomorow. its a wonder it still functioned right
