Default Nv3500 strength

I posted on Ls1tech but this might be more fitting. I've been researching but haven't been able to find a solid answer on how strong or weak the NV3500 is. There is someone with one behind an 8.1 with no issues and at the same time one behind a 4.3. Most of the people that say they are crap have never pushed power through them. So the question for people who have broke one themselves, what is the weak point that broke and how much power/torque did you have? And please don't just tell me to get a t56 and the whole deal about taking a shortcut on a build. Thanks!

Start here:

Most amount of motor behind nv3500 - Pirate4x4.Com : 4x4 and Off-Road Forum

Google says 310 lb. ft. of torque is the limit.

Yeah I've seen that one. From a 2hp Briggs and Stratton to a supercharged 4.8.

My truck put down 446/406 to the wheels. On motor. There's a 200 shot on top of that. Ran this combo for about 4 years. And the NV3500 hasn't skipped a beat.

That's impressive! And great information, exactly what I was looking for.

I've heard of them holding up to supercharged 4.8's, 5.3's and even a couple 6.0L's if there not abused to hard daily... but I've also never heard of anyone actually breaking one.either so I can't help you there.

I've got a nv3500 behind my stock 4.3L and am wondering what everyone is doing about the 2-3 shift. Even if i double clutch, it will hardly go into 3rd above 4500rpm. Planning on a fluid flush and looking into a Core/Hurst short throw shifter. I've read good reviews about it, hopefully it helps.

Mine never "Broke", but wouldn't shift 2/3 at any reasonable speed and always whined like crazy. Also when draining it, the fluid was pretty rough. I swapped in a junkyard 50k nv3500 and within a month, same thing. This was when the truck was on a 4.8 turbo, making between 528 first dyno, to 630 last dyno before moving to a 4l80. Tq was right there with the HP.

Couple 5 speed clips.

Good information, thanks guys. I had a feeling they were given less credit than they deserved. It seems like the shifting deal is really the problem.

The synchro's wore out in my old 5-speed. Probably too much speed shifts. Gears ground and whined when driving. This was behind a mild tuned 4.8 with basic bolt-ons and headers. Of course, power-shifting wasn't the intended purpose with the NGV3500, so I'm not surprised my driving eventually wore it out.

I know you don't want to hear folks tell you to swap in a T-56, but my truck drives soooooo much better afterwards. It's so nice to actually be able to slam some gears properly now.
