Default Notes on lowering a 4wd

Well I got all the lowering done now, and I've found out a few things. First thing is you can't lower a 4wd 6" in the rear and still use the the factory shocks, there just a little too long. So right now I bottom out the shocks on any big dip in the road, I ordered some 2wd drop shocks to fix that problem.

I know that even with proper shocks its still going to bottom with a load in the bed, and I do trailer a lot, so I ordered an Air lift slam air kit for the rear.

Now for ride, as long as it doesn’t bottom out, its better than it was stock, but I think tires have more to do with it, my 8 ply BFG ATs were choppy as hell.

The only thing I don't like is the bumpsteer. The truck doesn’t pull to one side or anything, not like say a Ford twin I-beam. But I get a lot of feedback in the wheel going over choppy pavement.

The truck handles 100 times better now, if you push it really hard it still has a lot of body roll, but any other time it corners pretty flat.

But the best part is it just looks plain awesome.

I used 2-3" belltech keys up front, and 4" belltech hangers and shakles in the rear, plus removed the lift blocks. On the front I installed the adjusting bolts to stock, got about 2" of drop, then I backed the bolts out 6 turns, and now I think I have more than 3" of drop, I can't remember the measurements.

When you took off the fender flares did you have any marks in the paint? I took mine off they where on for only a year and i had to buff the hell out of it. Im lucky mine is silver birch.

as far as the feedback through the wheel you may consider doing one of those tie rod flip kits from DJM. It relocates the tierod end from above to below on the steering knuckle. It is suppose to help with the bumpsteer problem
