Does he Daily Drive this thing? I couldn't imagine driving around with a 3000 stall that won't lock. That would be a NIGHTMARE for my pocket book. 711 and loves would enjoy it, but not me.

That converter was most likely designed for offroad use NOT daily driving.

there is no reason to put a non lockup in a lockup trans. performance wise you will never know lockup is there and daily driving you sure will miss it! is he posative its non lockup. it could be a lockup and its not going in. that wil burn up the fluid too.

Yes it is a non-lock converter, He has in a 5.3 powered S-10. The guy who built the tranny claims he done the valve body mod to it to run the non lockup converter in it.

does it have an external cooler? that trans is going to be turning higher for longer than it is designed to. it needs lots of cooling. what size tires/gears does he have and is he on the interstate or anything often?

I persoanlly would ditch the non lockup converter and undo whatever changes were made for it.
I know several companies did at one time make no lockup converters for these as they were alot cheaper to make. But Like I said before I have never understood why anyone would want non lockup with any trans driven on the street really but in particular and overdrive unit.

If he insists on keeping it. See if a tru-cool 40k gvw trans cooler will fit infront of his grille.
That's the best cooler you can buy IMO.

I agree 100%, if the car is driven on the street, there's no reason not to have lockup. The benefit of the trans fluid running cooler is reason enough, not to mention the increased fuel economy. I see no reason not to have lockup on a trans that was engineered to operate with the converter locked under conditions that warrant lockup.

He didn't ask how everyone else would do it...

I'd run a VERY big cooler, or maybe 2 in his case and if he likes it, keep it

And fyi, a 3000 stall isn't big...
