Default new to truck world rear ends

ok, for the past 2 years (I'm 17) I've been primarily focused with everything f-body. I never had one, i had a buick but now im getting a '92 chevy 1500. It has limited slip, so I thought that I'd just start looking for a locker or something to put on it. well, I found out its not that easy. I went to randy's ring and pinion, and have no idea what my application is. its got all these 10.5 and 11.5 and 12p things. im an idiot when it comes to truck drivetrain and suspension. can someone please tell me what the application is or how to find it and how to find the ratio?

Your axle should be a 10-bolt, either 8.5 or 8.6 in. ring gear, can't remember which exactly. The gear ratio should be somewhere on the metal tag on the third member. Or you can jack up the rear end and count the number of times the driveshaft goes around to one revolution of the tires.

is an electric locker/differential worth the money? will that do anything to my axle wrap? also, do i have to worry about the tranny going out like i hear about so many people talking about on here? or am i a little more safe because i have a smaller truck? its a single cab short bed. the tranny has a shift kit in it also

What size of engine and how many miles?

I have a couple of E-lockers in my truck and I love em, but if you don't what to shell out a cool grand for each one, get a detroit, or a regular Eaton posi.

I have a 4wd so 1 in the front axle and 1 in the rear axle.

Does the truck have 150,000 miles or 1,500,000 miles, just wondering if it was the second the speedo would have reset to zero and that would be something to see.

you have a 8.5 10 bolt rear probly 3.42 or 3.73 gears. if you want elocker you can go that way but i perfer a detriot alittle cheaper and the only way i have heard of one breaking is if a axle shaft let go. and weather your truck is 2wd or 4wd and a 1500 you can only get a locker for the rear because the 8.25 front diff yousd in 1500 4wd is to weak to be locked.
