Default New Transmission Install after sitting for months?

I have an flt level 7 4l65e that I will be installing this weekend but it has been sitting for a few months. Not in the rain or anything but the piece partly over the input shaft has some surface rust, etc.

Basically just wondering what all I should do to prepare the new transmission again for install. Such as cleaning off surface rust as well as possible but are there other things I should do or worry about?

Blow it off, wipe it down with 10W40 or trans fluid and install it.. I would.

OK cool

I planned on basically doing that, but just wanted to be sure I wasn't forgetting something important.

Other than filling up the converter before installing and putting 4-5 quarts in the transmission after installing but before starting the engine, what is the best way to fill the transmission?

So there is as little first time startup wear as possible.

Thank you

Since it's New and Dry inside, Put like 8 quarts in the transmission.

The whole transmission hydraulic system is going to hold like 12-14 total all said and done.

So should I just pour it in from the dipstick, through the Trans cooler lines, or another place before startup?

I've unbolted the electronics bracket that surrounds the shift linkage and the shift shaft bolt and small bracket that connects to the shift cable also. But when I go to remove the electronic bracket, I am met with resistance.

I want to make sure there isn't some type of clip holding it on, or if it just has some resistance then pulls off?

Thanks

Bump

Wanting to pull off the electronics off the shift shafts and don't want to break it, is there a clip to remove first or do I just pull it off regardless of resistance?

Sometimes the nut that holds the electronics on the shaft mushrooms the end a little bit. You can sand the outer flange of the shaft down a bit and it should slide off. Or are you saying you can't get the electronics won't pull away from the case at all?

Yes, be very careful with that nut, you can round it off pretty easy.

Once the nut is off you should just be able to pull the stuff off, but it may take some prying.
