I have those gears too. They are made by Yukon from what I've read. Mine are lashed perfectly and i saw the wear pattern myself. They still whine.

Some aftermarket gears will be noiser than stock/AAM gears. If the wear pattern is perfect and the backlash and pinion depth are correct, then the noise may very well be a characteristic of the gears. Another thing that I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned is the pinion bearing. If the nut to the pinon was overtightened and/or the pinion was not set correctly, the noise may be coming from the pinion bearing which will need to be replaced.

Thanks man. It's weird- doesn't sound like it's coming from the back, but more from the tranny and it's almost like a whirring sound- kind of like when a car stereo isn't grounded right and you can hear the hum through the speakers- it's that sound.

I'm hoping to have things up and running by next weekend for Mason....

Can you jack up the rear and run it, and get under there with a stethoscope or long screwdriver to your ear? Maybe you can pinpoint where the noise is coming from...
