Default Need help identifying which 4l80e is 2WD or 4X4

Hello, I am trying to help my friend get a 4l80e from a chevy express van, 2002 to 2004 model.

None of them say whether they are 2WD or 4x4 though. I thought they are all 2wd but I don't know why I thought that. Its just a guess at this point.
For example here
https://www.ebay.com/itm/124692890948

Is that 4l80e unit a 2wd? I would think so but how can I tell? Maybe something in the vin#?

Your link specifically states it's 4x2 in the item description

on top of that, GM didn't make a 4x4 van (from the factory) so we can safely assume a van 4L80 is 2wd

beyond that if you had the trans in front of you, we could measure the length of the output shaft or just look for the cone on the back of trans

OH man the wiki says in 03 they started making 4x4 express vans. Is that wrong? Or something tells me it doesn't apply to what I am asking for some reason.

Anyways, thanks, I think its safe to buy random 4l80e from those vans I guess. Got one and it was 2wd in the past but I Never even considered it might be 4x4 until my friend asked, I care more about giving good info to other people than I do myself

I will double check, but I am certain that 4x4 vans never left the GM factory

tons of conversions out there, of course; but none factory

ill read up on it later and report back

Looks like 2003-2014 the Expresses were offered with AWD as an option (news to me, but that's actually awesome)

Big caveat tho... It was only on 1500s, which means it would only have been 4L60s that you would need to verify. All van 4L80s shall remain 2wd
