My truck is an 2001 Silverado 1500 4.3/NV3500 2wd rcsb.

I need a new tranny soon. Most used NV3500's from 4.3 trucks are high mileage/high dollar, and I don't want to buy another problem. I used the VIN search on car-part and found a couple 05/06 Tremec TR-3450 units with low miles, but I need to know if they're compatible.

I searched the forums, but didn't find a lot of answers. I guess I really need to know what all of my options are. I want to keep it manual, and prefer a direct bolt in, but will consider all options. Below is my list of possible candidates, and I appreciate any suggestions or info on them.

NV3500 - Can I direct swap a NV3500 from a V8 with no mods? Any differences between V6 & V8 versions and/or NBS model years?

Tremec TR-3450 - Will it work? What years and/or what parts/mods needed?

T56 - Will it work? What years/versions and/or what parts/mods needed?

Automatic - 4L60E What years and/or what parts/mods needed?

Other A/T options?

I'd read before that the NV3500 wasn't used in 04/05 - up trucks, but I just found a post here that says Tremec TR-3450 didn't replace the NV3500 in 04/05 !?

If that's the case then the 05/06 units I found on car-part are NV3500's and not T-3450's as I assumed.

Can anyone confirm? I need to know if all NBS 99-07 NV3500's are the same or are there differences? IE: input shaft length/#splines, bellhousing bolt pattern, etc. Remember, I'm trying to direct replace an 01 2wd NV3500 in a 4.3 V6 Truck. Thanks.

i thought all 5 speed 1/2 tons came with the nv3500
