hey guys, i am a GM auto tech and i dyno these trucks all the time for emissions imspections...the sticker is on there due to the autotrac possibly engaging while on the dyno and ripping the car off and going through a wall...
its all a big liability thing and it required by GM and the state to be on there...you can put it in 2HI and have no problems worrying about anything happening.

i might havbe a different deffinition of shift on the fly, can you shift it in to 4wd while the truck is moving like the pushbutton?

I never have been able to get a good answer on this... I have electric/electronic 4WD on my truck with an "auto" mode (but also (obviously) 2 high, 4 high, and 4 low). Is this autotrac or not?? I am under the impression that it is not.

You have an autotrac transfer case, All z71's do.

AutoTrac is a bit different than just "shift-on-the-fly".

All recent 4wd GM trucks have the shift-on-the-fly capability, whether or not they have autotrac or the push-button 4x4. That is, you can switch between 2HI and 4HI at any reasonable speed.

All GM trucks require you to be going <3mph and in neutral to engage/disengage 4LO.

The "AutoTrac" stuff provides a fourth drive mode, in addition to 2HI, 4HI, and 4LO. On an AutoTrac truck you can switch between 4HI, 2HI, and the "Auto" mode at any speed. AutoTrac will only engage the front drive system when the rear wheels begin to lose traction. The AutoTrac mode can be used on dry pavement, unlike 4HI.

"Push button 4x4" is just an electronically controlled 4wd system...it does not necessarily provide an "autotrac" 4wd mode.

Not necessarily...there are z71s out there that don't have autotrac. The only thing the z71 package on a pickup guarantees are stickers and shocks.

yeah i have seen a quite a few Z71's with the manual transfercase, so can you shift into 4hi from 2hi while driving down the road at say 30 mph with the manual transfercase?
