I love my 80e, and with FI, I am sure you will too. Just hang in there. I didnt like mine at first, but when driving on the freeway and trapping high mph in the 1/4, it grew on me.

It would be nice to run a 1/4, but not around here, California Speedway, but that's quite a little drive.

I would have had to buy a torque converter anyway, i don't know how much a stock one would have been. But i know a stocker wouldn't have the rpm drop that the Yank has, it is very awesome i must say. The only way to overcome the 1st gear is FI and that's just it.
The awesome shift recovery ISNT from the Yank, Im sure it helps a little but the gear ratios are MUCH closer then the stock 60e with the HUGE difference between 1st and 2nd gear. A radix on top of the 5.3 isnt going to get it done and take full advantage of the 80e, or are you planning something bigger then that? I couldnt see going 80e unless you are planning on more cubes and decent sized PA'er. Once you get some more power in it I bet you will love playing on the highway with it. You dont shift out of first till what 70ish with those tall tires? Bump your downshift points up to the mid 55 range and have fun, atleast with the 80es you dont have to wrry about crushing planetaries with high-speed downshifts. For some reason my fully built 65e didnt like 78mph downshifts into 2nd on the juice.

I would like a 6.0 SC'd, but why not get a sc for the 5.3 and when i blow it buy a 6.0. Doesn't make sense to spend the money on a 6.0 when i don't have to. I'm not looking for an 11.00 sec truck, just one that's got about 100 more hp, lol. SC'er will do it.

Mine had a bad flat spot in first gear when I had the 3.73's and 2800 stall even with the blower. It got alot better when I put in 4.10's and my mileage went up. I think 4.10's will do alot for it, and then when you throw on the SC you will be alot more happy that you went ahead and put something in there that wont break all the time.

I've always wanted to do 4.10's, but how would my gas mileage go up? It's gonna rev higher on the freeway, well all the time, that's what gears do. I do like the gearing of the 80, i mean i'm at like 2400/2500 rpm at 80, so i guess 4.10's wouldn't be much worse. I'll give it a though.

Just because an engine is at a lower operating RPMs doesn't mean that it is most efficient there. For these engines, I believe optimal efficiency for gas mileage is around 2000-2300...

Well that's true i guess. But you gotta admit you are revving higher can't possibly mean you get BETTER mileage. I mean lets be real, you rev higher u r using more gas to go the same speed.

Also, with my tires and wheels, 4.10's would help tremendously

if you drive alot in town, 4.10s will help gas mileage if you drive the same as before, because it takes less throttle to get the same effect of acceleration
