Once you get the s/c it will make a big difference. In the mean time you won't have to worry about the tranny taking a crap on you.

yah, if i go any lower gears i'll get like 2 miles per gallon. Not that i'm worried about gas mileage at this point. Getting 1st and 2nd gear in the tranny isn't such a bad idea, but once i get the sc it will fix all my problems, that's what the truck wants right now, and i can't get it for a lil bit. No, the 4l80 isn't for everyone, but i did want a tranny that wont take a **** with a supercharged motor with full bolt ons, and that's what it's gonna be.

I think the 80E/TH400 stock gearing is great for turbos, but I'm not so sure about anything else. The higher 1st/2nd gear that they have helps load and spool the turbo better. As for a N/A and SC combos go, I don't think it's the greatest idea. Definatley switch to a 2.75/1.75 gearset and you'll be able to keep your 3.73's for the highway. BTW, John Kilgore makes any gear ratio you want (within reason) for a Th400, so he might make some for 80E's. They're pricey, but what isn't in this game.

it loads up much better in 1st gear.
I'm not turbo'd yet, but if my little turbine dream ever materializes, I'll definitely be going to an 80E for the strength AND the gearing.
