Default Is my 60e done for?

The trans in my "06 tahoe hasn't been shifting properly for a few weeks. It would wind first out and not shift at WOT. It changed when I put my 20" wheels on with 2" shorter tires then the stock height. I chalked it up to the shorter tires and played with the tune some but it never got it changed because of the holidays and being busy. Lighter throttle and it would rev 1st out higher then normal but then shift ok.

Last night I parked the truck and it drove 100% fine the whole trip home. This afternoon I only had a short drive to get onto the highway but once I did it didn't want to shift out of first at all. Then after a while it did shift into second but then wouldn't shift to third or overdrive.

I wasn't far from work so I stopped and checked fluid and it was pefect but smelled a little bit burnt. I just put the converter in 2-3 months ago so a good majority was changed when I installed the converter.

After that long story the question is do you think the trans is screwed up? Is not shifting into 2-3-4 common as a 60e fails? Second gear worked great up to 80 mph and would coast without issue and re-engage when I hit the gas again.

Thanks for your time and any segestions.

I would say yes if it is acting funny. We all know they are weak, the fact that the tahoe weights a bit more then a truck, the fact you have been beating on it a bit. Time for a 80

If it is junk I will be swaping to an 80E.

How dificult would it be to use my 2wd 80E in my 4wd Tahoe? Or would I have to buy a 4wd 80E along with a transfercase?

Just find a 4WD 4L80E unit. You would have to take the whole trans apart to change the rear out put shaft and swap the lube cup in the back of the case with a plug.

The 60e Transfer case just needs the input gear Swapped out. All you have to do is pull case apart swap gear and new seal then put back together. It has been covered on here by a few members. If you don't feel comfortable doing that then just get a full combo and swap it.

Just make sure you get the same type of transfer case. The manual and electronic cases are different.

Had a memeber on another forum tell me to unplug the trans. If it starts if first then the 3rd gear is physicaly out of the trans. If it starts in third then it is a tune, electrical issue.

Well it started in first! So unless someone has an idea that isn't physical damage looks like I need an 80E.
