Damn, I sure wish I could get the type of mileage you guys are getting ... I got 4.10's in my 03' 1500 HD crew cab and average just over 10 mpg around town ...

yeah, its all stock for now ... plan on getting HPtuner package shortly and then start on fabbing a turbo setup ...

I figure I should pick up some power and mileage just by eliminating torque mgmt ...

I had a helluva launch last night with a friend in the truck. Serious acceleration with 100% traction. This seems to always be the case with my truck, so I'm used to it, but it blew his mind completely. He had all kinds of questions - he didn't get why I wasn't spinning like he does in his Thunderbird. I explained to him about tire width (305mm X 2), positraction/limited slip (G80), coils versus leafs, weight transfer (I have pretty soft springs in the back right now), etc.

I don't have a stall and don't plan on getting one. But shortly I will be swapping in a 4L65E, which, with the converter it's equipped with, should stall a couple hundred RPM's higher than the 1600 I'm getting out of the stock 4L60E. So I'll likely be flash/brake stalling to 1800-1900 RPM's. My tires are 305/50-20's, which are 31.6" in diameter. Right now, at 70 MPH, I am running about 1900 RPM's.

I don't have a problem with low-end grunt. I had my cam made for my application, which at the time took the stock stall into consideration. I have an extremely even powerband starting right at the 700 RPM idle, running all the way through redline. That's what happened last night - facing a busy intersection, I just let off the brake and nailed the gas....instant acceleration, shitloads of torque, zero wheelspin. This is why I'm thinking I could do 4.10's and get away with it.
Could you elaborate on the different converter you'll be getting with the 65E?
Do you know if there's a 4.30 option for our trucks?

blackbrown, i personally have never heard of a 4.30 gear for our trucks. not saying there isn't one but after 4.10 most people jump to 4.56's.

I was told the 4L65E from GMPP is built for an LT1 car, so of course it will not stall stock speed behind a 5800 lb Avalanche. Course, we'll have to just wait and see.

So it comes with the converter too?

Interesting.

Back when I had my 97 chevy, you could order the 95 corvette converter and it would stall to about 2500rpm in the truck.
