Default M & H Drag Radials

M & H has drag radials that fit a 17" rim. Will the 17" rim large enough to get some good size brakes on? They've got them in 390/40R17 and 275/50R17. Since I'll be running AWD, could I run the larger size up there or would it cause steering problems.

17" rims are large enough for stock brakes but i dont think they are large enough for any of the larger aftermarket brakes.

the 390's are huge. they wont fit on the front if you want to turn. the 275's would fit but they are only 28" tall. thats prety short. i have the 305/45/18 nittos and they are 28.75" tall. still prety short and the nittos dont seem to hook all that great. there is no ideal tire for us it seems.

Does make sense. Run the 390/40R17 M&H in the rear and the Nitto 305/45/18 in the front. That would give me more grip out back where I have less weight and give me the 18" rim up front to get larger front rotors. Or do I need the same size wheels all around? I'm going to be running a 468 BBC twin turbo but only on pump gas. Still, I going to be hurting for traction.

It's a 1973 C10 short wheelbase. I'm having an intercooled twin turbo 468 BBC with a 4L80E put in. I'm also having it converted to AWD. It was a real piece of crap when I bought it but it's being semi-restored. I got it because it's smog exempt and has lots of room under the hood for the big block, turbo and intercooler. Also, with AWD it will have better traction than I would have in a car.

what brakes? if you can get a 15" rim on there then you will have lots of tire choices.

the mt dr's seem to be the best >> http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/strip.html

either the 295/65 or the 315/60(if they fit) would be kick *** on an awd but those are both for 15" rims so it depends on your brakes.

if you can get 15" rims to fit do it. any bigger than 15's and the tire choices suck.

Don't know exactly what brakes but I want as large as possible.

Everyone says the MT dr's grab the best. Getting bigger brakes are one issue and also driving in the rain with the MT's might not be real fun. The selection does get real limited after a 15" rim. The combo I mentioned seems like I'll get decent traction. The M&H look like they're a little better than the Nittos for traction and at least have some decent height and a 17" rim. Plus the tread pattern looks like it might be decent in the wet.

Here's a link to the M&H dr's. http://www.intercotire.com/site50.php

if your going awd you would be best off geting the same tire on all 4 corners.

That was my original plan. To get the Nitto 305/45/18 since those are the tallest and close to the widest dr's with an 18" rim. I may go that route. I had Nittos on my Z28. They were small but grabbed way better the the stock tires. What pressure do you run on the street and at the strip?

I got the M &H Racemaster 275/50/17 on my truck and they hook up Beautifully My ET dropped damn near .5 a sec and 60' time dropped nearly .200 these tires HOOK.
