Thumbs up ls2 swap into 86 K5 Blazer (need advice)

Hi,
I realize this is my first post on this forum, cant believe i have waited so long. I was wondering if anyone on here has done an ls2/4l60e swap into an 80's vintage full size truck. I did a bit of a search and didn't come up with much. My Blazer has struck with me through thick and thin, but the 305 is getting pretty tired. I would love to be able to swap in a new drivetrain but need to know what I may be getting into. I read somewhere how its advisable to mount the ls2 to a 4l80, does this bolt up to my existing transfer case? thanks in advance.

I do not think it will bolt up to the factory t-case, but I could be wrong. Other than that I have no real advice other than to DO IT! I would love to see this done to a K-5.

You now have a NP208 transfer case and a 700R4 with a 4 bolt tailhousing flange. The newer 4l60E has a 6 bolt tailhousing. The earlier 4l80E's had a 6 bolt tailhousing with a different pattern than the newer 4l60E. I do not know if the newer 4l80E's have the old style pattern or if they have changed.

You could keep the 700R4 and bolt it to the newer engine. It would not hold up to the newer motor and would very much need a performance rebuild. You would also have to adapt the TV cable to the newer engine. I believe that that someone makes that adapter.

You could use the 4l60E trans that came behind the LS2 but you would need to change out the tailhousing and I believe the tailshaft to the late model 4wd style and use the late model transmission to transfer case adapter. The transfer case may not bolt up to the newer adapter, because the newer adapter is made for a drivers drop transfer case. To get them to bolt up you would need a clocking ring. These are very common in the hard core off road world. Check out ColoradoK5 or the pirate4x4 boards for more info.
