Default Lost All Gears in 4L65E (4WD)

Yesterday shifting from 2-3 at wot I lost all forward gears and reverse. It didn't make a loud bang when it broke. I only heard little sound and knew it was slipping or letting going in gear.

It didn't surprise me that it happened from stock trans, except for transgo shift kit, with new found power and torque of the turbo.

I have an RPM built level 4 4L65E but it's 2WD.

So the question is can I have a local trans shop swap the output shaft from my 4WD 4L65E into this 2WD RPM trans to use it in my 4x4 truck without affecting the RPM build????

I am no expert in transmission, so, excuse the stupid question. I know it can be done but can it keep the integrity of the RPM trans build.

This RPM built 4L65E with all hardened input & output shafts is said to handle 600rwhp. it was built for a Camaro 3 years but I sold the camaro and never used it. It was laying in garage floor.

They will have to pull the trans apart to swap the shaft.

Make sure they measure end play specs and clutch clearance specs when coming apart and reinstall to same specs. It should remain similar as nothing else is being replaced but clutch clearance and end play are important.

Thanks. I dropped the RPM trans at the shop they said no problem will remove the 4WD output shaft and install it in the new transmission and remove the tail-house to make it fit my 4x4 truck. They will check the transmission and put it back to existing specs & clearances.

Here is what we found out about damaged trans. Broken input shaft, sheared off. Worn band and toasted 3&4 clutches.

Pics of the damaged shaft & band are attached. It was a stock 4L65E except for transgo shift kit.

Any advice on tuning the new transmission in the PCM to make it survive?? I have HP Tuners and can do these changes myself.

I guess you could go in and add alot of torque management, but whats the use in having all that power and cant use it. Sell the 2wd trans and go 80e.

It was up 4sale long enough but no one showed up.

It should be better than stock 4L65E that was in the truck. Meantime, I'm searching for 4L80E with transfer case from 2500 GM/Chevy trucks so that I can make it direct swap instead of disassembling my transfer case to change planetary gear to mate it to 4L80E.

Don't waste your time with a stock 4x4 out put shaft, get the 300m billet one. I broke 2 4x4 out put shafts on my built 60e before going to an 80e

At what rwhp/rwtq did u break the two shafts?

To my knowledge, 4WD trucks have the 4L65E which comes stock with hardened output shaft. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Another solution is to cut the 2WD billet output shaft that came in the RPM Trans and have new splines made at machine shop.

Those ARE the 4l65e 08 tbss shafts! lol Bought the first one new from GM and the second was a "warranty" replacement of the first, . You won't be able to re-machine the 2wd shaft, they are WAY different. This was with my forged LS1 masterpower t76 and about 550-600 hp. 4x4 boosted launches are not there friend!! lol

About half way down the page. It's expensive, but it's the only piece I kept breaking in my 65e
