Default Looks like I'm getting an 80e

Looks like I'm getting an 80e. A guy at work has one that was pulled from a 1ton gas burner. Trans is in good shape, and he only wants $200 for it. He really just doesn't know what he has. I am kinda new to this so I'm not quite sure what I need to do to make this trans worth while behind my 4.8. I'm sure I will need a stall but not sure which one. I plan on driving in town some and towing. I still need to maintain the functionability of the truck. Future plans are a maggie, cam, gears, locker. Not sure what all else as of now but it will be a slow build. Will this swap be better done at a later time? Thank you in advance.

If you are planning to run a maggie, don't over stall. 2600 to 2800 is whats recomended. I'm installing the full Transgo HD2 in mine and running the stock converter behind my TVS. Seems to be a pretty good combo for some decent hp. What year is the 80e? Sounds like one hell of a deal.

It's the most popular shift kit for these transmissions. It improves feel and durability, esp with the recomended pump mods.

200 is highway robbery on your part. Good for you. I paid 350 for mine in good used condition. It was from a 96 with a mighty 6.5 diesel in front of it. Seeing as how it came from a gas truck give the stock converter a try before you go changing it. From what I understand they stall around 1900-2000 which isn't bad IMO for a stocker. I am using the low stall diesel converter in mine that only stalls to 1500. It had worked great for me but I just installed a LT4 hot cam so a stall change may be next.

Congrats! A stock 4L80e is pretty stout in stock form.
