Default Knocking/thumping sound

I've read some old post on this subject, but would like to get an up to date response. I have a 1999 Chevy Silverado Z71. When I go to make a left turn I can hear a knocking or thumping sound coming from the passenger front tire, or around there. Older post suggest it is an ongoing steering problem with Chevy and could be temporarily fixed by lubing or by replacing a part on the steering bracket? On all of the threads they claim it comes from the driver side and can feel it in the steering wheel. It is getting worse and i'm afraid my tire or axle might fall off ( i know it won't but?). Any and all help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
