The tranny died last night... I was shifting from 1st to 2nd @ 4,000 rpms & the tranny made a loud/weird noise followed by a tension/whinning noise. So I pulled into a parking lot and looked under the truck, nothing was leaking so I tryed to back out but it wouldn't move in reverse, and it was making a tension/whinning noise. So we pushed it back and put it in drive and made it home. The whole way it made a loud whine & did not want to shift.
My dad wasen't mad which surprised me. He said that we could either get a tranny out of a wrecked truck and put it in ourselves (cheapest) or either have mine rebuild by Grisiley (he's the local trans. rebuilder guy).
I want to have mine rebuild and have a shift kit/ vette servos.
WHAT ELSE SHOULD I PUT IN TO MAKE IT STRONGER, that's my main question. I'm kind of on a budget.
Also my truck is pratically stock (4.8 with flowmasters) I plan on adding a custom tune, 3.73's with locker and other minor bolt-ons. This truck will probably never see much over 300hp. But I do drive the hell out of it. After it is rebuilt it needs to last 2 years, that's when I graduate and change vehicles.
Sorry for the novel.
Thanks,
Nick

Just get a remanufactured trans from a GM part dept. It comes with at 3 year / 50,000 mile warranty. It has all the current upgrades. If you're not going to be putting any more power than stock thru it then why spend the extra money? Besides, unless you're doing tranny slams, you should be able to get over a hundred thousand miles on the factory trans. I got over 125,000 when I sold my '99 ecsb and didn't start towing my 5000 lb boat until after the 100,000 mile mark. The guy who owns it now drives it on a regular basis for the last 2 years and no problems.
