Negative. 265/70-17, 265/65-18, and 275/55-20 are the factory sizes for the Silverado 1500, and those choices are identical whether the vehicle is 2wd or 4wd. All three of those factory tire sizes are under 32" (31.6 on the 17, 31.56 on the 18, and 31.9 on the 20)

Anyway, if you are wishing that you had gone for 4.30s instead of 4.10s with the short tires, I would probably be better off with the 4.30s myself with my taller tires.

I thought you were unable to order a 4wd truck with the 20s or 22s? I know I've seen 275/60/20s on trucks, they just must not have been factory. If your tires a taller than mine I would definitely go with the 4.30s. At 70mph I'm at about 2200rpm, plenty low enough IMO. With just a bit more gear and a bit more tire I'm sure you would be clsoe to the same RPMs.

Yeah my 285/70-17s come out to just over an inch taller than your tires. If I swap from my factory 3.73s (NHT) I will see about 4.30s for a 4x4. How much did parts plus install run?

1550ish, but that was with OEM gears and having the best axle shop in town do the work. If someone cuts you a deal or you use another brand of gears it will be less. I think the only OEM gears available are 3.42, 3.73, and 4.10 anyway.

Yeah, I think you're right; those are the only factory ratios I know of for the 14-bolt.

I know this is a very old thread... But, after discussing this with some very helpful list members, I will be doing the same thing. I will be going from 3.42 to 4.10 with OEM gears. If any of the posters that changed from 3.42 to 4.10 are still around... did you also add a tune at the same time? Or did you just change the gears? Thanks!

You'll have to tune. The PCM with start throwing codes if it sees about a 15% difference in speedo to wheel speed correlation.

Thanks madmann26! I guess I'll get a tuner first and then do the gears.

Somewhat related... I am also looking at the JMS PEDALMAX GM V3 - ELIMINATE PEDAL LAG & ENHANCE THROTTLE RESPONSE. But does anyone know if the Diablo inTune i2 does the same thing as the PEDALMAX thus eliminating the need for both? Or do they work together?

Thanks!

For the love of god don't do this.

Get a real tune. You'll be much more happier. You can tune out the pedal lag with efilive and hptuners.

PM Richard (Atomic Performance). He is a HPT dealer and can do remote tuning.
