Just made the 3.42 to 4.10 gear swap...

FINALLLLLY swapped my gears out for some real ones. Went from the stock 3.42 to some 4.10s. It is a HUGE difference. Now the super loose 3200 stall dont seem so bad anymore. haha One thing is for sure, the ol 6.0 starts pulling hard up top. Its hell from a 45-50 roll, where it actually hooks.

Anyhow, im ready to get some runs in to see where this puts me. im hoping for mid 8's in the 1/8th. Before the gears it ran 8.83 @ 80 with traction issues.

Mods are in sig.

What are your plans to make it hook?

have you noticed if it affected the fuel economy any? thats the only thing keeping me from doing the swap, i do a lot of freeway driving.

It will impact it, but not a huge difference.

More meat.

I already have traction bars to eliminate wheel hop. They work great. Mostly my hook issue is tire size right now. I am running 255/xx/18 or something like that on my caddy wheels. I got some 275/45/17 E/T Streets for the track. On the street those work ok but there is NO launch, or roll from anything under 25 without lots of spin. Bigger tires..period.

and as far as gas mileage, IDK yet. Havent put but about 60 miles on it since the swap.

It won't be much different. Your mileage in town will go up, and your mileage on highway will go down slightly. However I'm sure you've noticed that the highway RPMs haven't actually gone up too much. I think mine might have gone up 5-600 RPMs? It's been so long that I can't even remember. You'll love not having to downshift to make it up hills on the highway too. I also noticed that gear changes were much better because it didn't have to work near as hard. Shifting from 1st to 2nd happened at a slower speed with more mechanical advantage to keep things moving.

Congratz...

I did the same swap a few weeks back when my G80 went out. Best money spent so far on the gears and the tru trac. My mileage really hasn't been effected to bad.

im convinced now... im getting 4.10s
