Default just call me a rookie i guess

I was wondering if it was ok to install a locker in my rear end and not my front diff too???? I have a 04 chevy silverado ex-cab 4x4 with a open rear end. F*&#ing sux for off road. But i have no idea if it will have ill effects on my truck if i only install one in the rear end and not the front? I hope someonme can help!!!! I was also wondering whats the largest tires i can run on 16x8s and also 17x8s or 17x9s, without a lift for now. Im thinging of a mickey thompson baja claws, on ether a 16x8 0r 17s. ANy help would be great!!

heck yes you can put a locker in the rear end. it wont bother anything up front. your off road capibality with just the locker in the rear end is going to be a ton better. btw, baja claws are great tires.

What he said. That's the way the Z-71s come from the factory, Eaton G80 in the rear and an open front. You'll be surprised how much difference it makes off road.

Well all ill say is Claws kick *** i have em, and on 16x10's and 305/70/16's im clearing with front end Cranked and trimming.

Erm, putting a locker in the front would be a BAD IDEA anyway!!, lockers LOCK the wheels together and cause them to rotate at the same speed, in order to steer the wheels have to be able to move at DIFFERENT SPEEDS, if a locker is installed in the front end they CAN'T. The only time I've seen a locker sucessfully used in a front axle was on a hard-core Jeep that was used ONLY for running in sand, and it had a turning radius of about 300' feet

And, yes....MT Baja Claws ARE great off-road tires, if you drive on the street alot though they will drive you INSANE with the whine they have.

my 35's actually arent that loud on the street. i think the bias ply version are the loud one's.
