I'm getting sick of looking at this mess in my pan. If anyone is getting over a couple hundred miles out of a tranny, what is your secret? I should have stayed with the 60e and just replaced it every 500 miles, it would have been cheaper.

The guy at Denny's said the 3/4 inch of slip is enough when the vehicle is on the ground. I just measured without the extension housing on, and I have 1 inch.

With the truck on the ground and the ujoint straps off (like you were going to take the shaft out) can you move the driveshaft forward out of the yoke 3/4" or more? Or does it feel like it bottoms out on the output shaft?

What I did was take the tail housing off(while the tranny was supported by a jack at the proper height). Inside the tail housing, there is a sleeve that the yoke slides into. I pushed the shaft forward by hand until it stopped, and marked the yoke with a magic marker at the end of the sleeve while all 4 were on the ground. I pushed the U-joint in the rear yoke, and there was 1 inch from my magic marker line that the shaft had slid back. Here are a couple pics of how it sits on all 4 vs how it looks with the shaft pushed forward by hand all the way.

I have thought it was too close, but the guy from Denny's disagrees with the obvious. I wish I could make my own shafts. Every single time I let someone do work for me it costs me a shitload of money. This driveshaft has cost me 2 trannys, a ton of work, and a ton of frustration. The odd part is when I bought the shaft from them I decided to get a rear yoke so that everything was from them. I believe that the length of the new rear yoke is what's killing me. The new rear yoke is about 3/16" longer than the original, and I bet they didn't account for that when they built the new shaft.

The ds does look to tight I would have to agree. How does it look with the suspension loaded? Also did you flush the cooler out? That stuff in the pan might have come out of the cooler.

It was a brand new cooler, never had fluid in it before, and the lines were clean too. The first pic is of the truck setting on the ground. When the truck is on the lift, the driveshaft moves back about 1/4".

I had this same problem, might still have this problem, mine beat the rear seal and bushing out too cause the slip yoke was to long, so I got a new yoke and cut 1 3/4" off of it... Do this, get three guys to bounce on the tailgate of the truck while u watch the slip yoke and make ure It dosent bottom out on the rear seal, And also make sure it dosent bottom out on the end of the slip yoke, the guys on the tail gate will feel a sudden hit when bouncing if the front of the yoke is hitting the back of the trans.... My yoke has the same clearance as yours now, we did these couple suggestions and passed all concerns
