Hi guys.
Well, I got my front end vibration fixed. Turns out, the fifth wheel/tire balance did the trick. But, the tech noticed that I'm starting to get some play in my left front wheel bearing and a little brake shimmy up front. Well, I wanted to replace the brakes with a nice upgrade WITHOUT breaking the bank (still trying to find that one) but then he explained how expensive it is to replace a wheel bearing on these things. What have you been doing when you have to replace these? Are there any alternatives to do it for a little less than the $670 I've been quoted?

2wd or 4wd?

 

There is a recall out for some of these trucks. I got a check from GM for over $600 when I told them my brother n law's shop fixed it for that price I figured if it ever goes bad I'll fix it then. The problem pertains to 1999 and 2000 ABS sensors and front hubs in climates that may cause corosion, whatever that means. You can call GM at 800-630-2438, have your VIN# ready and they will help you out with whether or not you're in line for the recall. You can PM me if you have any questions.

either GM, or even your local chevy dealer should be able to tell you if it would be covered. It pretains to the wheel speed sensor rusting up and not working. I've seen technicians try to back the bolt out that holds them in and break it off, or the sensor would be rusted in, thats when the hub would be replaced. It happens a lot here, but im in Wisconsin. I would check your sensor and see if the bolt is rusted on the bad hub, if so, you might be able to get a new one for nothing. It's not the most likely thing, but it's possible. If all else fails, you might be stuck paying the money good luck

 

If you need 4wd hubs, I had mine replaced under warranty 500 miles ago. I no longer need them (converted to 2wd), so pop me a PM and we can work something out.

I'd do the install myself -- pretty easy.

 

I didn't know you ditched the AWD. Why did you decide to do that? Are you able to hook your truck at all now?
