Default I need help. Local guys are clueless please read.

Today I went to Mr. Transmission to get some "Expert" Advice. I drove up their. Walked in the door and the manager guy talked to me. I told him I have a general question I was wanting to know if I could get answered. I gave my vehicle specs etc. I said I have a 3500 Stall converter. He interupted "What do you need a 3500 stall converter for on the street?". I said I have a big cam. "oh". He walked out ot my truck, I gave him my keys and he cranked it up, heard the noise. I said "there's that noise". He then put it in drive and had his foot all the way on the brake and started revving it.
"Son, this ain't a 3500 stall converter"
-"Yes it is"
"No it ain't. I've been racing for years, I know what a 3500 stall converter is"
-"Sir it is"
"I have an 87 mustang 351 Windsor with 400HP and a 3500 converter and it's not like this" "A 3500 stall converter will automoticaly go to 3500 when you hit the gas".
He said my CONVERTER WAS a 1200 stall!! WTF, it's higher than that stock you moron. So I left, furious. I then stopped at Eckerds to get some milk. Got in the truck and did MY test. Pulled straight, held the brakes and gave it gas incrementially, 1500,2500,3000 RPM, then my tires started roasting as I did a burnout. Yeah, it's a 1200 stall. BS!! I'm so furious a guy in the business for 40 some odd years doesn't know what he's talking about.

So please help me. He said the clanking noise I have is a broke flywheel. It makes sense. my vibration problems and the metallic noise inside the bell housing. However, How did I break a flywheel after installing a TC? It just doesn't make sense.
PLEASE HELP!
Philip S.

It may not be broke but your converter bolts may be loose causing the converter to wobble on the flexplate. Pull your starter and check the bolts.

I know after helping my friend replace his engine (or his tranny - can't remember which, about 10 years ago). He had a clanking noise, too. It was a cracked flywheel. We don't know how it got that way either.

Sorry to hear your tech guy was such a jackass, guess he's never heard of the many different ways to rate a converter.

I agree it sounds like you cracked the flywheel, most likely from loose bolts. Did you give them a healthy dose of red loc-tite?

Sucks but looks like you will be having to pull the trans and double check all that stuff. I feel your pain, about to start a converter swap right now.

1200 Stall......... As for your noise, It's like the other said, either converter bolts loose or cracked flywheel. I've had the flywheel problem myself before. Good luck!

OK, it's either lose TC bolts or a cracket flywheel. I know when I put one of the verter bolts in I stripped it . I lacquered it in red loc tight and it sat in over night. However I don't think it's the TC bolts, but I will check! Well, time to pull the tranny again, hey I'm getting good at this!
Thanks for the advice guys, it's much appreciated.

Yes, it will be just fine. Was that the culprit of the noise?

Haven't got to it yet. One of my lifters went out which is very odd. So I need to replace the lifter then the flexplate. I'll keep you updated. People on LS1tech find it odd my lifter went out, which so do I.
