How much to replace U-joints?
#3
u-joints front and rear cost about $30-35 to replace... get ones with grease fittings on them.. my stockers didnt have them
also.. if you find a good driveline shop, have them do that and balence the shaft (another $30 bucks)... i think our u-joints have to be pressed on and whatnot bc they have those plastic pins or whatever you call it.

Are you for sure the U-joints are bad, it could be the yoke. U-joints go from $5 - $50, the last time I replaced mine I used the OEM cost about $35 from the dealer. As for replace them, you will need a hydraulic press or a very large bench vise, don't do the hammer method because the yokes on the shaft are aluminum.

If the u-joints are teh originals, you will need a torch also. The caps are retained in yoke with a plastic pin that has to be melted out with heat.
I use large sockets and a vise to presss the joints out.
The non-greasable joints are stronger than the greasable joints with the zerk fitting in the body of the u-joint. The joints with zerks are hollow and may crack at the joint. Its important to install the grease zerk so it is under compression rather than tension as teh driveshaft is turning,
you can even get joints that have the grease zerk in the end of 1 of the caps.
GM joints dont have grease zerks IIRC.
