Talked to a guy in the Dallas area about building up my trans, I think the shop was called tomball motorsports, not to sure. Anyways, here is the quote that he gave me, does it sound like a good deal to you guys?

"Here are the estimates for the transmission rebuilds.
mild build including red eagle clutch packs, corvette servo, increased line pressure, stiffer accumulator springs, advanced check valves, and aluminum accumulator piston plus many more small changes. transmission price is 775 install is 375 fluids are 30. total installed $1180.
heavy build including all of the mild build plus many others including the beast sun shell, kriptonite papers, and many other internals changed for 975. installed for $1380.

FLT or PERFORMABUILT no need to look any further

 

Thats not too bad. Like i stated before the local guy here in texarkana charges 950 FULLY built and i usually charge 250 to pull and install one so thats not too bad.

 

He should put a transgo shift kit in there and don't increase the line pressure.

 

I would if they were cheaper.
If you weren't 3hrs away from me I would be all over that.
Yeah I need to ask him about the shift kit, that should be one of the first things to do to it. Yeah I wont increase it. Justin does all my tuning so ill let him handle that.

The guy that gave me these quotes also does dyno tunes for $350. Would I see much of a gain from a dyno tune compared to my mail order tune from justin? All I have is LTs and about to add the TT3000.

For $12-1400 from an unproven/unknown shop, I personally would spend a little more and get a unit from FLT or Performabuilt. I'm not trying to toot a sponsor's horn, but you get what you pay for and you can't argue with proven track records. The '60E is a very hard trans to build right.

I've been through 8 of these stupid transmissions from three different local trans shops... the last two i built myself and have had much better results, namely not having the 3-4 clutch pack go out. Also, the trans shops screwed around too much with the EPC and accumulation and i HATED the way those transmissions shifted. I've figured out how to make mine shift "good" at low-mid throttle and very firm (but not harsh) at WOT and still keep the 3-4 alive. From what i've seen this is also how the sponsors build theirs too... and my next build will come from one of them. I'm not messing with this trans again. royal PITA. The TH350 and TH400 were easy to build and make live, but the 60e is an animal of its own.

 

People break FLT and Performabuilt trannys too...

If you can get a local built tranny with a warranty, I say go for it.
