Default How do I remove a steering wheel

What tools are needed to remove a steering wheel out of an 04 Silverado. Any tricks I should know about? How hard on a scale of 1-10?

SUPER DUPER EASY. I swapped wheels on my 04 the first week I had it. Here's what you need to do:

Disconnect neg battery cable

Disconnect yellow airbag wire along the steering wheel column

Take 2 really small scratch awl's and insert each awl into the the small holes on either side of the steering wheel- The airbag will come loose and forward.

carefully pull bag away and disconnect wires on the backside of the airbag.

Loosen single nut in the center of the wheel.

Use steering wheel pulled to pop wheel loose from the column.

Put new wheel on

Tighten center nut snug - 25 ft lbs is all

reattach wires to airbag and align airbag dowels in wheel to the airbag itself.

Push airbag in

reattach steering column airbag wires

connect neg bat cable

get in pass side of truck and turn Key on and start (just incase the airbag gets pissed and wants to deploy)

Overall a #2 for difficulty 1 being the easiest
