Higher stall... worth it?
#11
I noticed today that when shifting from 1-2 and from 2-3 that it seems to fall flat for a bit before picking back up again. I assume that it's because when it's shifting up it drops too many RPM's (just out of a good torque range). I like the fact that a higher stall will hold higher RPM's between gears. AKlowrider, you have a similar setup to mine and I'll take your word for it. I also got the same advice from Yank, so when I get the cash I'm buying an SC3000. My only worry is the towing ability and the DD streetability. Any input on that?
Thanks for all the help, guys.

I tow with my truck frequently. No problems whatsoever. If my load is very heavy, I watch my boost gauge and try to stay out of boost just to go easy on the tranny. I went with the Radix because I wanted torque FOR TOWING, since that's what I do with my truck. Get a 40k Tru-Cool if you don't already have one.
My truck is my daily driver. The Yank is great. As for gas mileage, I'll say that I go 300-350 miles on a 26 gallon tank. This is city driving, all stop & go, most speed limits are 35 or 45 mph around town. And I do romp on it all the time, so I know it could be better. As for highway driving, I still get an honest 19 mpg at 70 mph.
Maybe I should record a speedo clip showing how my Yank does in daily driving. How do you guys keep the camera on the instrument cluster while you're driving?? lol

IMO in a 2wd street truck with a radix, a converter is useless. Youd be better served adding more power instead of dropping the trans for a mod that is just going to go up in tire smoke. If you were 4wd then that would be a different story, then theyre well worth it.

My truck is a 4x4. I guess it should be in my sig. At any rate, I like making smoke
but I feel the best advantage for me would be the higher upshift RPM's throughout all the gear changes. With a 5.3, even with the blower, it seems to be slightly below that sweet spot on the upshifts.

Light throttle, stop & go around town.

Normal acceleration to highway speed.

Medium throttle, no boost, to highway speed.

Rolling into the throttle.

Light throttle driving, rolling burnout at the end(1/2 throttle).

Going WOT at 30 mph.

Too much traffic to give you a WOT 4x4 hard launch. I'll try to find a place in the next couple days.

AK, those are great! It looks like the stall is pretty mild mannered for the most part but really wakes up under boost. Just what I'm looking for. When the tranny goes south in mine, I'll go south for a tranny. Probably an FLT level 7 with a 3000 stall.
Thanks again!
