Help what should I do about my rear end
#1
I just put a new trutrac and 3.73 gears in my rear end along with new bearings and seals while I was in there. Anyway after getting it all back together there is a whining noise on deceleration. Guessing that the shims were just a little off I drove it 8 miles to the dealer to have them check it and make adjustments they are now telling me that it needs to be rebuild with another new ring and pinion and for cost reasons and what not they recommend that I have them just put a junk yard rear end in. What are your guys thoughts

The dealer says that the ring and pinion I put in is no good because it was driven and will now always whine even once the backlash is set right and will lead to premature failure. Is it true that a ring and pinion can be ruin even if there are no visible wear.

8 miles shouldn't have been long enough to wear in the gears. They're screwing you over. The only reason for replacing a ring and pinion from a bad install is if they are set up way off and you leave them that way long enough for the gears to break in (~500 miles).
I would not let the dealer touch anything aftermarket I have done, since they usually don't know what they're doing with it. Picking up a new ring and pinion would only cost around $150 at most anyways.
Also, when you checked the gear pattern (I'm assuming you did that), did you whipe off the yellow paint or did you leave it on the gears? I have heard that if you leave the paint on the gears it can cause them to whine really bad. And you are running 80-90 conventional gear oil right? DO NOT put synthetic gear oil in there with a truetrac.

I did the original install myself but after getting backlash as best I could it was making noise so I took it there for them to check and get set perfect cause I had no more patience to make more adjustments

It takes a lot of time to get them set up right, and it can be a pain in the ***, but it is very important.
Have you ever changed gears before? Did you use the correct methods for install?

I have done gears before but only while I was in school for automotive and this is the first one Ive done myself. I guess Ill just see if they will re shim it for me or ill pick it up and try again myself. I did use 80-90 oil and ill clean out the rear real good to make sure all the yellow paint and everything is clean

What did you set the pinion nut torque to? Thats pretty important as well, and did you use a new crush sleave? Did you replace the races with the bearings?
Just some more info that'd be useful. Did you replace the gears because of breaking something or just an upgrade?
